Like any university student, I too had unrealistic expectations of finding my favorite job in my favorite city. But it came crashing during campus placements. If I liked the job, it was in a totally unknown city for me. The city where I wanted to go didn’t have my choice of jobs. Surrounded with apprehensions, I caught my father’s attention when I visited home. 

My father told me, if you really want to make a career, you can’t make your choices based on the locations. Just pack your bags and go for it. 

The key here is, we must be flexible. And it is not just about being flexible for location but really for everything that helps us remain relevant. 

I know I was silly but I take heart when I find people who are far more hilarious in their demands than me! Some of us deny work saying we didn’t sign up for this. Doing this, we cut down on our options of professional growth. 

My LEARNING: 

Flexible for LOCATION: I have gained more experience in years about people and places than I have had if I didn’t change locations / work places. 

Flexible for WORK: learnt new skills 

MOST IMPORTANT learning: People and situations change, nothing is permanent in corporate life. So let go, not react. 

Being flexible has been like signing up for a happy journey for me – give it a try !
